Rendezvous at The Riad

Who is she going to see? Cycling through the garden towards an ornate Moroccan Riad, in quite the rush as her effervescent dress floats behind her in the wind. The ground is a warm red that fades down below into a deep scarlet, with a covering of apricot hued intricate foliage studded with exquisite little turquoise birds that are singing away to narrate her journey...

This painting is 100 x 80 centimeters & is available for sale SOLD

Wanderlust Grips The Maharani

The Maharani is gripped yet again by the idea of seeking adventure! She is making her escape (this time with her Maharajah) against a glowing dusk sky. The bluebirds are peeking between softly golden & intricate foliage in the garden, wondering where the two are off to this time... This painting is inspired by inlaid jewelry & miniatures of the Mughal empire, as well as by Chinese imperial ceramics. The golden leaves catch the light & illuminate depending on the time of day.

This painting is 30" x 40" inches & is available for sale SOLD.

It Started At Sea II

A continuation of the adventurous narrative of It Started At Sea. Yet this time the colours & pattern are inspired by African wax prints with their incredibly vivid contrasting hues & stunning brilliance. The waters consist of an ombré of light fuchsia to dark wine, creating a moody yet luminous feeling to the pattern; all the while the flying fish of various shades of cyan seemingly fly through the waters.

This painting is 80 x 100 cm (close to 31.5" x 40" inches) & is available for sale SOLD.

It Started at Sea

Who knows what adventures lie at sea? This time in waters teeming with flying fish! This pattern was inspired by the far East with all of its incredibly intricate ancient art. I've been particularly charmed by the glittering Chinese ancient textiles & royal wooden screens.

This painting is 30" x 40" inches & is available for sale SOLD

Waxing Unpoetic

It has been an intense summer, full of dramatic events like floods, motorbike accidents involving dear ones, & huge projects to complete. I'm feeling very drained but intensely happy, because luckily it all ended incredibly well & I made some precious new friends along the way. I'm traveling for a few weeks, & cannot wait to sink my feet into some sand & breathe in some fresh ocean air. Also, I cannot wait to show you some more of what I'm up to very soon. For now, a few images that are inspiring me of late. Via my Pinterest.

In Her Studio

It is my pleasure to introduce a short film by my dear friend & wonderfully talented Cinematographer, Saba Mazloum about...well...ahem...me! Saba has worked with some of the biggest names in the biz making everything from box office to art films, & his current mentor is Thierry Arbogast (The Fifth Element, Leon the Professional, Joan of Arc, La Femme Nikita - all my favorites!). So you can imagine I was honoured when he approached me to make this short.

He spent a few weeks with me in my natural studio habitat, documenting my creative process while I worked on a painting from start to finish. It was an incredibly fun experience, & the song which reflects that mood is one of our mutual favorites. My husband makes a cameo appearance in there, too, since he often acts as my in-studio muse! For those who are in the know about cameras & lenses: the whole thing was shot in Anamorphic! Saba has both directed & edited the film himself.

Into The Mint!

A sequel to The Maharani Seeks Adventure: This adventurer finds herself yet again walking determinedly, this time through an aquamarine landscape, as her fez-wearing companion hurries to catch up with her to kindly shades her from the sun. Inspired by Morocco's beautiful patterned mosaics & incredible spectrum of blue.
The painting measures at 30" x 40" & is available for sale SOLD.
