of gingham & spring

Do forgive me for the long silences, it has been a busy season of projects, commissions, canaries to feed and orange trees to rehabilitate (don't make me explain), it can be ever so difficult to keep up as you yourself must know so well!
Spring is here & I smell the coming of summer just around the corner bringing with it a mood of nostalgia...It seemed high time I sewed myself a gingham tablecloth out of fabric from here, so I finally did, & I'm happy to report it has been getting quite a lot of use.

the daydreaming maharaja

Although I have met a Maharaja or two on rare occasion in the past, I can't really say I've met a daydreaming one...This piece is a continuation of the illuminati series.

flowers on the mind

Yes, I promise there will be more flowers coming up in my new work (for those who inquired as to whether there will be more in the series "The Flower Sellers of Kashmir"). I have been immersed in flowers & am sharing with you a photo I took this summer of the most fragrant Mediterranean roses my nose has ever been blessed with.

amongst the coral

Remember how I've been looking to all things aquatic? At last I have something to show you. I'm constantly finding new ways to use gold, & in this one I decided to paint the coral with gold to emphasize a precious quality about them. Some of the fish are quite shy & some are simply curious, but all of them are based on real species.

of ships & fantastical creatures

I grew up craning my neck & observing in complete wonderment the details of these ancient images every weekend at the Mansion of Bahji. I believe an artist was commissioned to decorate above the multiple blue windows with lovely individual images at the time of it's first owner (‘Údí Khammár). It dawned on me only recently, after all these years, how they have influenced my imagination subconsciously.

exploring all things aquatic

I have some new work on the way for my patient viewers...Anyone who knows me well enough knows that I have a slight obsession for all things aquatic. Having been raised on the Mediterranean I've had the pleasure of enjoying the sea & all it's bountiful treasures first hand.

I have recently been studying the gorgeous works of Albertus Seba who documented all kinds of marvelous creatures of the sea...I can't wait to show you what I'm up to!
